Calgary / CW Report from Wayne Thomas

Very Scary Night at the ‘Jack’

The Calgary Dinos punished the overwhelmed Winnipeg Wesmen for the second night in a row, as the 2-0 Dinos waltzed to a 96-55 win. Starting the game with a 20-3 run, Calgary took out all the suspense early, and they kept their line-up rotating as the game developed into a rout. Robbie Sihota powers past a Wesmen defender Tyler Fidler recored a 24 point, 10 rebound doubledouble, plus 7 assists, and Robbie Sihota scored 21 to go with 9 boards. Ross Bekkering, playing only 17 minutes, had only 8 rebounds and 7 points, but had 3 blocks. Winnipeg got 16 from Peter Lomuro, but the Wesmen shot only 28% from the field. The rebounding was a no-contest 58 - 33 for the Dinos, who recorded 22 assists to Winnipeg’s 5. Every Dino had at least 10 minutes, and they all hit the scoresheet as the subs were made freely in this mismatch. The performance of Patrick Walker, the 1st year 6’8” post man continued to impress, with his 5 rebounds and 6 points. Calgary will travel to Winnipeg next weekend to play a pair of games against the Manitoba Bisons (1-1). The next home series will be November 13/14 when the Dinos host Fraser Valley and Thompson Rivers.
Notes ... Thanks to photographer David Moll for the game shots ... big addition to the ‘Hoops News’... Henry Bekkering is on crutches for about 3 weeks as he recovers from an operation to clear out a pretty serious infection in his injured leg. Apparently the prognosis is good, and he should return to play for his team in Nijmegen, Holland in a month or so... Great to see Coach Gary Howard at the games
this weekend. He and his wife Ann got in quite a few visits with former players, Assistant coaches and many Calgary friends... Other Scores Saturday ... Simon Fraser 78 - at Victoria 75 ... Kevin Shaw (18) and Matt Kuzminski (17) led the Clan, while
Cyril Indome notched 23 for the Vikes... Fraser Valley 74 - at TRU 58 ... four players in double figures for the Cascades led by 18 by Sam Freeman. Jeff Friesen had 16 for the Wolfpack... at Alberta 77 - Lethbridge 66 ... Bears got 24 from Scott Leigh, and the ‘Horns 22 from Jeff Price... At Brandon 106 - Manitoba 83 ... Dany Charlery goes for 33, and newcomer Terrill Thomas has 20 for the ‘Cats. Dan Purvis-Collins scores 20 for the Bisons... A lot of no-shows on Halloween night, with only
about 500 in the stands... The UBC T-Birds play Oral Roberts and Oklahoma next week in a pair of non-league games in the U.S. Alberta plays Gonzaga on Monday night, and that game is televised on Spokane’s KHQ-TV.
