AUS Weekend

Another somewhat-light schedule in Atlantic Canada with the feature matchup happening on Sunday afternoon as #6 St. FX X-Men visit #4 Dalhousie in a battle of two Top 10 teams which are both undefeated in league play. All eight teams are in action with single games except Saint Mary's visiting Memorial for a pair of games Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. SSN Canada will webcast the X/Dal game beginning at 4 PM Atlantic (3 PM Eastern) time on Sunday afternoon.

Expect Friday's Cape Breton at UPEI game to possibly resemble a track meet as both teams love to get up and down the floor and have the backcourts to play that way. The Panthers feature guard Terrance Brown, tied for the AUS scoring lead at 22 ppg, while Cape Breton has Tremaine Fraser and Jimmy Dorsey who love to get out in transition and attack the rim. Capers 6'4" Phil Nkrumah is tied for the AUS lead in rebounding at 10 rpg. No word on whether or not 6'3" Paris Carter will make his AUS regular season debut after injuring his wrist in the championship game of the Jack Donohue Memorial tournament at uOttawa several weeks ago.

Acadia looks to remain undefeated as the Axemen host UNB Varsity Reds who continue to search for their first win of the season in league play.

The Dal/X game should be a contrast in styles as the Tigers will look to convert defensively against the up tempo X-Men. Dal hopes to keep the game in the quarter court at least defensively and try to work from inside out, starting with 6'9" Joe Schow in the blocks. Tigers 6'6" Jason Wang had what may have been his best weekend of his career last weekend. Depending upon how the matchups work, X coach Steve Konchalski may be able to find more time for 7'3" Rinny Ngot if/when Dal goes big to support 6'8" Alberto Rodriquez. Great matchup in the backcourt as POY candidates 6'2" Simon Farine for Dal and 5'10" Christian "T-Bear" Upshaw face off. This should be one of the best games of this CIS weekend.
