St. FX (2-0) 99, UNB (0-2) 57 In a game played at another high school in New Brunswick because of the ongoing issues with a basket at UNB's regular gym, X used a 29-9 second quarter run to blast the home side. Charlie Spurr had 21 points in the win for X which dominated the glass (41-26) and held UNB to only 32% shooting for the game including only 2-9 from downtown. Colton Wilson led UNB with 16 while four players hit double digits for X which played their bench liberally throughout the game.
Saint Mary's (1-1) 80, Cape Breton (1-1) 75 The Huskies took a huge win from the Capers in the second of a back-to-back in Sydney as Saint Mary's guard Joey Haywood and Mark McLaughlin combined for 42 points and 14 assists. Tremaine Fraser led CBU with 16 points/7 assists.
Acadia (1-0) 93, Memorial (0-1) 80 Overcoming a 26-18 difference in the foul count and a 29-36 (81%) effort by the Seahawks at the foul line, the Axemen got 25 points from Casey Fox and 22 from Andre Grant to win in St. John's. Steven Earles went 14-16 from the foul line and finished with 26 points to lead Memorial while Mike Helsby added 24. Acadia pulled away with 32 second-quarter points. The teams meet again this afternoon.
