Rhode Island 93, Concordia 54

In a game played on Friday night, the Rams dominated the Stingers in South Kingstown, RI., jumping out to a 10 point lead less than four minutes into the game before watching Concordia cut it to three after an Evens Laroche layup made it 28-25 with 10:01 remaining in the half. But a 7-0 push, capped by a Marquis Jones jumper, ignited the Runnin' Rams offense the rest of the half. Richmond connected on a baseline shot as time expired, giving URI a 50-33 edge at the break. Rhode Island shot 58.1% (18-31) in the first half.

Akeem Richmond does not fit the profile of a bigtime shooting guard, which is one reason it took him so long to make a decision on a college.

He is small for an off-guard, at 6-foot-1. He looks like a point guard, but plays like a shooter. When he does shoot, his form is not classic. Both elbows are bent wide when he goes up.

But as he showed Friday night, the freshman sure knows how to put the ball in the basket. Richmond scored a team-high 19 points, including 5-for-8 on 3-pointers, as he led the University of Rhode Island to a 93-54 exhibition victory over Concordia University of Montreal at the Ryan Center.
