Carleton 97, Laurier 54
6'3" Cole Hobin keyed a huge Raven run midway through the second quarter that opened up a tight game to that point while 6'8" Kevin McCleery and 6'5" Kyle Smendziuk were near-dominant inside as Carleton cruised to an easy win at home against the Golden Hawks. Laurier stayed close for the first quarter and a half as 6'3" Jesse MacDonald got it going from the perimeter, flashing his very strong mid-range game while underrated 6'6" Matthew Buckley initially matched McCleery inside with 6 early points. But the Ravens began digging in offensively, making open perimeter jumpers more difficult for the Hawks and Hobin began getting to the rim at will off the dribble. As well, the Ravens got reasonably easy penetration setting up their bigs for easy scores. By halftime, Carleton led by 21 and the game was basically over by then. McCleery led all scorers with 23 points on a nice array of smooth post moves as the Hawks rarely doubled down, adding 9 rebounds while Smendziuk added 19 on 8-9 shooting, many of them creative layups inside. Hobin had 8 in only 24 minutes but got his as part of Carleton's run when it was still a game. MacDonald led Laurier with 20 points. Ravens 6'0" Willy Manigat played admirably on what had to be a very emotional day for the youngster as today was his father's funeral. We wish Willy and his family all the best and our prayers are with him.
