Lakehead 108, RMC 71

Behind 23 points from Winnipeg transfer Cam Hornby, the Thunderwolves moved to 2-0 on the young OUA season with a victory over the Paladins which, until late in the third quarter, was much closer than the final score might have indicated. The T-Wolves had a 12 point halftime lead at 50-38. With about 6 minutes remaining in the third quarter and the game still competitive, an injury on the floor resulted in a 20+ minute delay in the game and Lakehead stormed out of the gate when play was resumed to gap the Paladins. Matthew Nagy added 14 points for Lakehead while Jamie Searle added 13 and Greg Carter 10. According to Lakehead coach Scott Morrison "we came out flat against a physcal RMC team who did a number on us in the first quarter. We re-grouped on the defensive end in the second half and took advantage of some open looks. Credit to RMC for battling hard with seven bodies and playing sound offense in the first half. Each game gets bigger in the OUA and we are now getting focused for Ryerson and TOronto next week". The Paladins again played with a depleted roster, using only 7 players and playing a zone virtually the entire way - Lakehead took 44 shots from downtown and made 20 for the game. Lakehead outrebounded RMC 44-23 with 16 offensive boards. RMC's forward Simon Dakin capped a nice weekend with a team-high 18 points while rookie Jon Wilson added 15, guard Gavin Viray-Cox 14 and freshman point guard Justin Hill had 10 for the Paladins (0-2).
