Laval 77, Concordia 51 Les Rouge et Or remainded undefeated in the Quebec league with a resounding victory at home over Concordia in which Laval took a 15 point first quarter lead, finishing the quarter on an 11-2 run while holding the host Stingers to just 9 points in what Laval Head Coach Jacques Paiement Jr. called a "great team effort". Christian Trottier had 16 points to lead Laval and his three pointer late in the second quarter gave Rouge et Or a 19 point lead. Midway through the third quarter, Concordia was able to shave the lead to 11 on a pair of free throws by 6'4" Evens Laroche (12 points/12 rebounds) but Laval quickly responded with a 12-1 run highlighted by a three from 5'9" Xavier Baribeau (12 points, 8 assists) and a conventional three-point play by 6'3" J.F. Beaulieu-Mahieux (14 points) and the route was on. Concordia scored only 9 fourth-quarter points. BOX SCORE
McGill 102, Bishop's 88 6'4" Matt Thornhill had 35 points and 8 rebounds including 4-5 from downtown and fellow fourth-year senior 6'6" Paul Herra went 6-7 from downtown as the Redmen held off the resiliant Gaiter's in Montreal. A Thornhill three gave the Redmen a 12 point lead midway through the fourth quarter at 87-75. In a game of runs, Bishop's led 23-17 before McGill took off on an 11-0 run capped by a 3 from Nick Langley, who had another big game with 18 points and later a Thornhill steal and jumper which beat the first half buzzer allowed McGill to lead 40-37 at the half. McGill scored 21 points in the first 4 minutes of the third quarter highlighted by 8 Thornhill points but the Gaiters then had a 21-11 run to close to within 4 after three quarters. Thornhill then capped off his electrifying performance with 10 more fourth quarter points while Herra knocked down his 6th and final 3 as McGill pulled away. Bishop's had 4 players in double figures.
