Big road win, in front of an announced crowd of 863 for the Regina Cougars (1-0, Canada West) playing without starting 2-guard Jeff Lukomski who is away on football duties.
Regina led 17-11, 36-27 and 58-51 by quarters. The game was tied in the third quarter. Lethbridge (0-3 Canada West) got within one point in the last two minutes.
Key player for Regina was 6-1", 2nd-year, 2-guard Sterling Nostedt who came off the bench to hit four treys. He finished with 16 points. Fifth-year starters Jamal Williams and Paul Schubach added 14 points apiece. Freshman point guard Darius Mole had a solid 11-point, 4 assist outing, hooking up Williams multiple times on slipped screens.
Danhue Lawrence and Rob Cooper led Lethbridge with 18 points apiece. Jeff Price and Derek Waldner were in double-digits with 12 and 11 respectively.
Regina shot 41.1 percent from the floor, while Lethbridge continued early-season percentage woes at 35.3. Lethbridge outrebounded Regina 53-47, while both teams had 17 turnovers.
