Calgary 86, Manitoba 57 (from Wayne Thomas)

The 3rd ranked Calgary Dinos (3-0) got all they wanted on Friday night at the University of Manitoba, emerging with an 86-67 win by dominating the 4th quarter. The Bisons (1-2) played the gamewithout their high scorer, Nathan Dixon, but the home
team played some good defense to slow down a sluggish Calgary attack for much of the way. The hard-working Bisons battled to a 58-57 deficit to end the quarter, as Calgary wobbled. Foul trouble bit Calgary with Tyler Fidler and Robbie Sihota missing chunks of the second half. Calgary’s defense steadied in the 4th quarter, and their offensive rebounding, combined with sharper ball movement hurt the smaller Bisons as the clock wound down. Calgary got a huge game from Tyler Fidler with 23 points and 14 boards, and Ross Bekkering had 22 to go with 10 rebounds. Jarred Ogunbemi-Jackson had a solid game in his first appearance back in Manitoba ... 17 pts. and 6 assists. Sean Maxwell was the leading Bison scorer with 17, but he fouled out mid-way through the final frame. Calgary out-rebounded Manitoba 45-27. Notes ... Correction ... Sean Maxwell, Manitoba Bisons forward, transferred from UBC, and not Victoria. Jeff Lukomski, guard, Regina Cougars, will attempt to play in two varsity sports in two provinces on Saturday. Lukomski will suit up as a wide receiver for the Rams vs. Huskies in Saskatoon in an afternoon game then fly to Lethbridge, arriving at 7:30 pm, change in the cab, and shoot his usual bushel of 3 pt. attempts against the ‘Horns. That’s a full day’s work ! • Saturday’s Dinos - Bisons re-match is webcast at 7:00 pm MST at ...http://www.educationcdn.com/schools/bisons/

Lots of support for Dinos rookie point guard, Ogunbemi-Jackson, as he played in front of friends and family in his first game back after graduating from Winnipeg’s Garden City Collegiate.
