After a sluggish start, Laval took over in the second half, using a 15-1 run to start the third quarter, primarily from a lock-down "d" that held the Citadins to just 17 second half points until garbage time late. UQAM scored only 4 points in the first 8 minutes of the fourth quarter. 6'5" Étienne Labrecque led all scorers with 27 points and 13 rebounds including 15 in the second half, highlighted by a dunk early in the third that gave Laval (4-0) the lead for good. 6'5" F.O. Hébert, Laval's scrappy post, finished with 14 points to help Laval.
UQAM (2-1) came out very aggressive off the start of the game and made it difficult for Laval to get into any offensive flow, including defending the "3" very well in the first half; UQAM led 34-32 at halftime. After the slow start to the second half, UQAM had one more run after falling behind by double digits, whittling a 12 point lead down to 1 on a three by Arthaud Plessius (12 points) with 2 minutes left in the third but Laval quickly produced a 15-0 run in about 3 minutes bridging the third and fourth quarters to pull away for good.
Labrecque was instrumental offensively, taking over with a 10 point fourth quarter and Laval got numerous stops to win going away. Les Rouge et Or held UQAM's QSSF all-star Adil El Makssoud scoreless on the afternoon. Kevin Levy led UQAM with 16 points while Plessius added 12.
6'2" Christian Trottier did not play for Laval, resting a shoulder injury. 6'3" J.F. Beaulieu played only 14 minutes after not practicing all week due to a hip injury. BOX SCORE
There is one final game in calendar 2009 in the "Q" which goes next Saturday night as Concordia (2-3) visits UQAM (2-1) for a 7:00 PM start.
