UPEI 96, UNB 74

The Panthers earn a split of their two game weekend series on the road at UNB with a 22 point victory.

With thanks to Scott MacDonald from UPEI Men's Basketball blog...

UPEI (1-4) was dominant in the second half in their 96-74 victory on Sunday, outscoring UNB 51-32 after leading 45-42 at the half. UPEI closed out the game with an impressive stretch in the fourth quarter holding UNB to 13 points closing out the game strong to head into the break on a positive note. Nick Toews led all scorers with 30, Manock Lual and Matt Fennell each had 17, and Terrence Brown scored 12 for UPEI. Michael Anderson was the top UNB scorer with 24, Alex Desroches added 20. It was a successful homecoming for Panther rookie Calvin LeBlanc as the Fredericton native shot 70% over the two games averaging 10 points and 6.5 rebounds in the series, giving the team a spark off the bench. With better execution on defense in the second half UPEI should be a threat to win any night out, as they have as much offensive firepower as any team in Canada.
