A 20-5 run to end the second quarter led by 6'8" Jacob Doerksen, who hit a buzzer-beating 3 among his double digit first half point total and 6'5" Tonner Jackson has brought the Spartans back to within 6 after trailing by as many as 17. The Dinos used strong pressure "d" to create turnovers to take a comfortable lead over the host Spartans early. Calgary jumped out to a 28-11 lead but 6'7" Jason Keegstra hit back-to-back 3's, part of a 6-1 TWU run that ignited the crowd but Spartans Calvin Westbrook turned it over bringing the ball up, leading to a Ross Bekkering breakaway slam and later Robbie Sihota knocked in a long 3 off a pick and pop and the Spartans were forced to call timeout with about 5 minutes left in the first half down 15. But Doerksen led the comeback, highlighted by a three from the right wing that beat the buzzer. Bekkering picked up 2 quick fouls late in the half and sat out the last 2 minutes. Calgary's 5'11" freshman Jerrod Jackson has shown that he is a legitimate high level point guard in Canada West, handling and going past defenders, getting into the lane, finding teammates and playing with the savvy of a veteran although Jackson did pick up a technical late in the second quarter for what appeared to be trash talking.
