Ottawa 73, Laurier 59

The Gee-Gees jumped out to a double digit first quarter lead and then stayed in control the remainder of the way with a stellar defensive effort in handing the Golden Hawks their second consecutive loss of the weekend in Ottawa. 6'3" Donnie Gibson shook off a sub-par, second half performance on Friday night against Waterloo to finish with 17 points to lead Ottawa while 6'6" sophomore Warren Ward added 16. The Gee-Gees also got a better effort from 6'5" Nemanja Baletic who had 11 points in 31 minutes while 6'8" Matt Riendeau, again subbing for injured starting 6'8" post Louis Gauthier, contributed 10 points, 9 rebounds and used his wide wing span to also block 3 shots. Ottawa-based observers were extremely impressed with the tough, solid play of 6'6" Max Allin, a freshman for Laurier, who had 25 points and 9 rebounds, showing a tremendous inside/outside game, an ability to put the ball on the floor and a propensity to stick his nose into the action. Allin promises to be one of the better freshman in the country and has a bright future. Laurier veterans 6'2" Jesse MacDonald and 6'5" Kale Harrison combined to go 4 for 25 from the floor as the Hawks shot just 33% against Ottawa's strong pressure on and off the ball. 6'4" Josh Gibson-Bascombe shot poorly (2-9, 0-4) but finished with 9 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists.
