Cape Breton 103, Bishop's 57

A pair of veterans paved the way to an easy Capers victory over the host Gaiters this afternoon as third year point guard Tremaine Fraser went off for a season-high 22 points while 6'7" Scott Jaspers-Fayer added 19 points. Winnipeg transfer Ryan Roper went 7 for 7 from the floor and finished with 15 points while big 6'4" Phil Nkrumah added 10 rebounds for Cape Breton, which led 54-22 at halftime and finishes their tour of Quebec this weekend at a perfect 3-0 (5-1 overall vs. CIS teams in the pre-season). Bishop's stayed in the game early but found themselves down 12 after the first quarter. "We got pounded on the glass", commented Bishop's coach Rod Gilpin, always gracious in defeat. Freshman Onnex Blackwood led three Gaiters in double figures with 10 points. The Capers kick off their AUS schedule next weekend with a pair of games in Sydney at home against Saint Mary's Huskies. Bishop's travels to Vermont next Friday to meet Lyndon State, an NCAA Division III team, in what Gilpin describes as an opportunity to play some young guys given that three of his regulars do not have passports and border rules are much more stringent in these times (passports required). Bishop's kicks off their QSSF regular season with a game at Concordia on November 13th.
