OUA East: 2nd Half Surge leads Blues; Huge 1st half run propels Gaels

Toronto (9-3) 71, Ottawa (10-2) 65 6'4" Mike Degiorgio keyed a game-deciding run in the middle of the third quarter when Toronto took the lead for good and the Blues moved to within a game of second place and a first round bye in the East with a win at home. In a game with much more flow than last night, the Gee-Gees took a 3 point lead to halftime but DeGiorgio (14 points, 10 after halftime) was instrumental and the Blues eventually built leads as large as 10 in the fourth quarter. 6'5" Ahmed Nazmi led the Blues with 20 points including 14 in the first half for the Blues while 6'7" Nick Snow and 6'4" Paul Sergautis each added 10. 6'9" Dax Dessureault dropped in 21 points to lead Ottawa while 6'3" Sean Peter added 17 and 6'3" Donnie Gibson returned from missing the last six games due to a back injury to contribute 10 points. Ottawa got only 7 points from their leading scorer, 6'4" Josh Gibson-Bascombe. Toronto outscored the Gee-Gees 21-13 in the decisive third quarter and then scored the first 5 points of the fourth to build a lead they would never relinquish.

Carleton (12-0) 101, Ryerson (4-8) 60 The Ravens romped in Toronto as 6'7" Aaron Doornekamp had 19 points and 6'3" Stu Turnbull added 16.

Queen's (8-4) 87, Laurentian (2-10) 48 The Gaels broke open a two point game with a 21-0 run including the first 18 points of the second quarter to take a huge lead in Sudbury. Laurentian did not score for 7 1/2 minutes bridging the first and second quarters while 6'5" Mitch Leger (15 first-half points/game-high 21) went off for 11 points and 6'3" Simon Mitchell (14 points) added a pair of threes in the run as Queen's has gone 7 for 13 from downtown. Gaels 6'4" freshman Jon Ogden (13 points, 5 rebounds) had 8 early points off the start of the game but the Vees hung tough to 17-15 until about 3 minutes remained in the first quarter at which point Gaels "d" and slick long-distance shooting took the game over. Another freshman 6'2" Dan Bannister added 14 for Queen's while 5'11" Darrell Drake led Laurentian, which shot only 25% for the game including 1-14 3's, with 14 points.

York (2-10) 91, RMC (0-12) 57 York had 5 players in double figures.

Gee Gees have been a surprisingly good team this year. However, they do not seem to have the horse power to win the really big games, such as the final in the Shoveller tournament, and this game they need to win to put some breathing space between them and third place Toronto. It seems the key to beating the GGs is to keep Josh B-G from reaching high double scoring numbers. When he doesn't, they lose.

let's see if Toronto gets into the top 10 after beating Ottawa. Someone's head needs to roll if not ...

Someone's head needs to roll?
What in hell are you talking about?
The poll is conducted amongst the 43 CIS coaches.
And Toronto's case for a top 10 spot would be a lot more convincing if the Carleton game was a lot closer.
Anyway, Ottawa has beaten a number of top 10 teams before finally getting into the top 10 themselves.
So Toronto fan, take a number and wait in line.
