Quebec: Laval uses 31-9 4th Quarter to hammer Stingers in Montreal

Laval (5-2) 89, Concordia (4-3) 66 Les Rouge et Or broke open a one-point game early in the fourth quarter with three consecutives 3's and All-Canadian candidate J.P. Morin had another sterling effort as Laval took sole of possession of first place in the "Q" this afternoon at the Concordia gym in Montreal. Morin had 34 points on 12-22 shooting including 4-8 3's in what Stingers coach John Dore called "the J.P. Morin show". Laval outscored Concordia 31-9 in the fourth quarter as 6'3" J.F. Beaulieu-Mahieux had 2 of the three 3's in the decisive run and finished with 22 points while steady 5'9" point guard Xavier Baribeau added 12 for Laval, which shot 52% from the floor, 48% (14-29) from downtown and a perfect 9 for 9 from the free throw line in winning their 5th straight "Q" league game and their 7th win in their last 8 games overall. 6'2" Damian Buckley, playing through a bout of the flu, competed as always and had 16 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. The Stingers also announced that 6'3" Dwayne Buckley will miss the remainder of the season with injuries to his MCL and ACL and will have surgery soon after having another MRI shortly.
