X gets comfortable road win at SMU

St. FX (16-7, 7-3) 86, St. Mary's (17-7, 6-4) 75 X jumped out to a 12-2 run off the start of the game and quickly extended the lead further, taking advantage of early SMU turnovers and missed layups to claim a somewhat-easy victory over St. Mary's at the Tower in Halifax. The Huskies honoured their Vanier Cup-finalist football team, including a noticeably-limping Hec Crighton Award winner Eric Glavic at halftime, but the home crowd had little else to cheer about as X led 49-34 at the half and extended their lead to 21 at 68-47 after 3 quarters. While SMU did get the game back to within 7 late in the game, the result was in little if any doubt almost from the beginning. 6'2" Tyler Richards finished with 23 for X including several big shots at key points in the game while 5'10" Christian Upshaw sparked X's transition game with 20 points and 7 assists although he did commit 8 turnovers on the night. 6'8" freshman Islam Luiz de Toledo again was instrumental inside, going for 19 points and 8 rebounds. 6'2" Mark McLaughlin had 26 for St. Mary's while 6'1" Shane Morrison added 14 in a losing effort. St.FX/SMU Box Score Chris Kallan from the Halifax Daily News has a piece on the X victory over SMU and Chad Lucas also has a piece on last night's game Lesson Learned
