Tigers Knock Off Capers; end losing streak
Dalhousie (5-5) 77, Cape Breton (9-2) 74 6'1" Andrew Sullivan had 20 points and 12 rebounds from the guard spot and hit the clinching jumper with 11.3 seconds remaining as the Tigers held the Capers to 9 fourth quarter points for the win at Dalplex. With the Capers down 1 and 41 seconds remaining 6'2" Chris Noddle missed a pair of free throws for Cape Breton (16 for 31 overall from the foul line for the game). On the ensuing possession, Sullivan hit a tough, contested shot off the glass as the shot clock was expiring to give Dal a three point lead. The Capers then had a chance to tie the game with 3 looks, one which was decent, but couldn't get one to go down. 6'5" Germain Bendegue, an enigma for much of the season for Dal, had a terrific effort with 19 points and 7 rebounds, shooting 7 of 12 from the floor and attacking the Capers inside, especially when both 6'5" Eric Breland and 6'7" Scott Jaspers-Fayer went to the bench early in the first quarter with 2 fouls apiece. The Tigers also had 14 offensive rebounds, many in key situations. "Sullivan was outstanding", commented Capers Head Coach Jim Charters, "and Bendegue really took advantage of some favorable matchups inside that really hurt us." 6'4" Paul Blake led Cape Breton with 23 points and 12 boards while Breland, in 28 minutes, had 17 points and 6 rebounds while 6'2" Mark McGarrigle went 5 for 10 from downtown, part of a 17 point effort.
