Varsity Blues Announce First Recruit for 2008-09
From the Varsity Blues basketball office... The University of Toronto Varsity Blues Men’s basketball program is pleased to announce that Ben Garvin of Sacred Heart High School has officially committed to attend U of T in the fall of 08. Garvin a 6’3 wing from Holland Landing, Ontario has been on the Blues coaching staff’s radar for well over a year now and officially announced his plans to attend U of T this week. Ben is a long athletic wing who can shoot the ball and get to the hoop and finish. He is also a great passer and should fit right in to the Blues style of play. Garvin who played a major role in his team going to the AAAA, OFSSA quarter finals last year continued to impress Blues head coach Mike Katz this year with his ability to score, rebound and create for his team. At the recent Mother Theresa Tournament Garvin averaged 25 points in both games, including a 23 point haul against the 5th ranked team in the province and tournament host Mother Theresa. “Ben is someone that we feel in time can be a major contributor in our program. We like the fact that he can shoot the ball, pass and rebound, he is a very versatile player” said Head Coach Mike Katz. Garvin will strengthen an exciting Blues roster and will help offset some key losses in the Blues line up next season. “I am really excited about coming here. I love the way U of T plays and can’t wait to be a part of it. I feel I have definitely made the right decision on which school to attend” said Garvin. The Varsity Blues are currently ranked 7th in the country, their highest ranking in 11 years. With the signing of Garvin and with news on more recruits to come the future looks bright for men’s basketball at U of T.
