UQAM (1-5) 91, McGill (4-3) 57 Citadins veterans 6'4" Mario Joseph and 6'5" Kevin Boucher struggled in the first half of the season with their shooting and overall play and the fortunes of UQAM faded with them. Joseph and Boucher came back with vengence tonight at McGill, leading the Citadins to their first victory of the league season, a resounding triumph over the inconsistent Redmen as Joseph had a season-high 22 points on 9-12 shooting while Boucher did his thing on the offensive glass, grabbing 5 "o" boards and had 15 points. UQAM broke open a tight five point game at the half to lead by 16 after three quarters and then romped to the 34 point win. 6'3" Moustafa El-Zanaty had 28 to lead all scorers for McGill, who shotonly 34.6% for the game including only 4-19 from 3 and turned the ball over 21 times. UQAM, as usually is the case, attacked the offensive glass for 13 "o" boards and shot a season-high 59.3% from the floor.
OUA EAST
Carleton (11-0) 86, Toronto (8-3) 70 In a foul-filled game, 6'3" Stuart Turnbull was the difference as the Ravens remained unbeaten with a 34 point fourth quarter that saw Blues Head Coach Mike Katz ejected. Turnbull had a team-high 27 points including 12 for 14 at the foul line and helped seal the game in the fourth. Before a packed house in a game between two of the top teams in the country, the referees imposed their wills on the game, as the teams combined for 61 fouls (31 against Toronto/30 against Carleton) in a game that lacked any flow and did not provide an accurate indicator of how entertaining a game between these two teams could be. 6'3" Nick Magalas did his best to keep the Blues in the game with 28 points while 6'7" Nick Snow, one of three Blues to foul out, had 15 while 6'7" Aaron Doornekamp had 15 for Carleton as he also battled foul trouble all night. Both teams had to go deep into their benches because of the countless infractions and resulting foul trouble. The Ravens shot 32-42 from the line including 33 second-half free throws, 10 of which came from Toronto technical fouls. Unfortunately for one of the largest crowds to witness a Blues game in recent memory, instead of seeing two of the best-coached and competitive teams in the country decide the game, the fans were "treated" to a parade to the foul line. The Blues host the Ottawa Gee-Gees tomorrow night while Carleton visits Ryerson.
Ottawa (10-1) 75, Ryerson (4-7) 64 6'4" Josh Gibson-Bascombe delivered a game-high 25 points including a big 3 down the stretch while 6'3" Sean Peter added 21 including two jumpers to extend the lead as the Gee-Gees won in Toronto. After taking a 5 point lead to halftime, Ottawa stormed out of the gate, creating turnovers, getting on the offensive glass and scoring in transition to build leads as large as 20 in the third quarter. However, the resiliant Rams weren't finished and led by their strong inside game of 6'7" Boris Bakovic, 6'10" Joey Imbrogno (9 points, 12 rebounds, 4 blocks) and 6'11" Igor Bakovic, sealed off the inside with a 1/3/1 zone and got going offensively, cutting the lead to 4 with 3 1/2 minutes remaining. However, Gibson-Bascombe, Peter and 6'2" freshman Jacob Gibson-Bascombe each made big shots to seal the Rams fate. Ottawa did a fine job defending Boris Bakovic (15 points - well below his 29 ppg average), usually sending a second defender when he got the ball. Ottawa's third quarter run was energized by 6'5" David Labentowicz, who sat for most of the first half in foul trouble, but battled on the glass (game-high 14 rebounds) and for loose balls while 6'9" Dax Dessureault had 9 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks. Ryerson played without 6'1" point guard Ryan McNeilly, out until February with a stress fracture while 6'5" Steve Williams could only play the first half before retiring with a bad bout with the flu. Ottawa once again played without 6'3" Donnie Gibson, who is out again with a back injury.
Queen's (7-4) 78, York (1-10) 56 In a game that was basically done at halftime when the Gaels led 49-25, 6'3" veteran Simon Mitchell came close to the first triple-double of his career with a game-high 22 points, 10 rebounds (all defensive) and 7 assists as Queen's romped at York. 6'6" Mitch Leger added 20 points for the winners while 6'3" Tut Ruach, as is usually the case, kept the Lions as close as possible with 21 points on 6-20 shooting. Queen's shot 11-29 from downtown but surprisingly went a paltry 3 for 12 from the free throw line. The Gaels travel to Sudbury tomorrow night to meet Laurentian.
Laurentian (2-9) 77, RMC (0-11) 59 The Paladins stayed within 2 after the first quarter but things quickly got worse as the Vees led by 24 after three quarters to win going away. 6'3" Paul Kovacs led the way for Laurentian with 23 points and 8 rebounds. 6'10" Nick Cooke had 14 points and 8 rebounds, many when it was still a game. Gavin Viray-Cox led RMC with 18.
OUA WEST
Lakehead (6-5) 70, Laurier (4-6) 67 6'4" Kiraan Posey went off for 36 points and added 10 rebounds while 6'6" Warren Thomas added 18 points/10 rebounds as the Thunderwolves came from behind in the second half for an important road victory at Laurier. The Golden Hawks led by 6 at halftime and 3 after 3 quarters before Posey and Thomas led the charge for the win. 6'5" Justin Golob led Laurier with 17 points while 6'5" freshman Kale Harrison added 15 points/10 rebounds. The teams meet again tomorrow night.

Another solid win for the Gee-Gees. Nice to see they are finally in the top 10 again. The fact that they spent any time outside of the top-10 was an absolute joke. I still wonder what reality justifies Guelph ahead of Ottawa in the rankings.
As a Carleton grad, I write this through gritted teeth but the Gee-Gees might possibly be the second best team in Canada right now...and certainly no worse than top-5.
Interesting that the ref assessor, who has shown up at every Blues home game so far this season, was a no-show last night. He wouldn't have had enough space to write, as the odd couple + 1 who decided the game last night, called everything. Only of course after conferring with each other and then with the whining Dave Smart. Carleton and the Blues are arguably two of the best teams to watch in the OUA right now, let them decide the game, NOT the refs!
