Bekkering to appear on Canada AM this morning

A note from Calgary Sports Information.... University of Calgary Dinos basketball star Henry Bekkering will appear on CTV’s Canada AM Wednesday. The live interview from CTV’s Calgary studio will air at 8:40 am MT (10:40 AM ET) on Wednesday, Feb. 6. Bekkering, who is the fourth sibling to play basketball at the University of Calgary, transferred to the Dinos from Eastern Washington University and has made an immediate impact. He leads the team in scoring with 21 points per game and routinely brings the crowd to its feet with his spectacular dunking ability. That ability landed him a cover of Sports Illustrated on Campus along with an appearance on FSN’s Best Damn Sports Show Period while at EWU. Online videos of Henry’s dunks are widely distributed on YouTube and other internet sites, with some recording more than a million viewings. He was featured in Lori Ewing’s weekly basketball column for the Canadian Press on Monday, Feb. 4. In addition to his basketball talent, Henry was drafted in the fifth round (35th overall) of the 2007 CFL College Draft by the Calgary Stampeders as a receiver. Bekkering and the Dinos finished their home schedule last weekend with wins over Manitoba and Winnipeg, ending the season a perfect 12-0 in the Jack Simpson Gym. Calgary has clinched the Central Division pennant and will host the Division Final Feb. 22-24 against either Alberta or Saskatchewan, with the winner hosting the Canada West Final Four one week later. The Dinos (17-3) travel to Saskatoon to face the Saskatchewan Huskies (11-9) this weekend in the final two games of the 2007-08 conference schedule.
