Halifax Rivalry: SMU edges Dal in OT on Thursday Night
Saint Mary's (12-6, 38 pts.) 95, Dalhousie (8-9) 91 OVERTIME 6'5" Aaron Duncan (pictured) had 32 points including the tying three pointer with 7 seconds remaining in regulation and then the go ahead free throws with just under 2 minutes left in the OT to keep the Huskies in the battle for second. The Tigers led the entire way and held a 3 point lead with just under a minute to play but could not close the game out. Four of the 5 Dal starters fouled out. As usual, Chad Lucas breaks down the game very well for us in this morning's Halifax Chronicle-Herald Duncan delivers for Huskies plus Chad's game note on his Posting Up blog. The win moves the Huskies into a second place tie with Acadia in the AUS. However, Acadia has 3 games remaining (2 vs. MUN both 4 point games and vs. UPEI) while Saint Mary's has only 2 two point games left, both against first place Cape Breton. X also has 4 games remaining and could also conceivably catch Saint Mary's. Last night's game could actually have been a preview of a possible first round matchup between the two Halifax rivals.
