Mustangs Late Surge leads to road win at Laurier
Western (17-10, 10-8) 74, Laurier (11-16, 8-10) 64 Back-to-back 3's by 6'1" Jason Milliquet and 6'1" Matt Curtis with under 3 minutes remaining broke open a 3 point game leading the Mustangs to a road win that puts them in the driver's seat to host an OUA West playoff game for the first time since 2002. After the teams entered the fourth quarter tied at 44, Western was able to grab a 64-61 lead late, and then Milliquet, who led the Mustangs with 17 points including 5-6 from downtown was true and Curtis (9 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists) followed with another long bomb to stretch the lead to 9 and seal the win. 6'6" Brad Smith had his way inside with the Laurier front line, scoring 16 points and adding 7 rebounds while the Hawks combination of 6'7" Trevor Csima and 6'8" Andrew Pennycook finished with only 10 points on 4-17 shooting between them. Once again, 6'5" freshman sensation Kale Harrison, clearly the OUA West's top rookie and a probable league all-star in his first year, finished with 19 points and added 8 assists. 6'5" sophomore Justin Golob added 11 for Laurier, still fifth in the OUA West. 6'5" Andrew Wedemire added 14 for the fourth-place Mustangs, who trail third place Guelph by 1/2 game and second place Brock by 1 1/2 games.
