Late Kraus 3 leads Axemen to Huge home win over X
Acadia (15-2, 38 pts.) 82, St. FX (11-5, 32 pts.) 76 4 POINT GAME 6'2" Andrew Kraus scored five consecutive points including a game-deciding three with just over 2 minutes to play as Acadia put themselves in the driver's seat to capture first place in the AUS with a narrow 82-76 win over X at home in Wolfville. Kraus, a second year point guard from Markham, ON who had a season-high 20 points for Acadia on 7-9 shooting, knocked down a pair of big free throws to tie the game at 72 with about 3 minutes remaining and later his 3 gave the Axemen the lead for good in a game in which there were 5 lead changes in the fourth quarter alone. 6'5" Leonel Saintil was also instrumental in the win, scoring 9 of his game high 26 points and grabbing 6 of his game-high 21 rebounds in the fourth quarter. Acadia hurt themselves at the free throw line, going only 20-35 (57%) as X was whistled for 29 fouls as a team against only 15 for Acadia. The Axemen had leads as large as 14 points early in the game at 26-12 as Saintil had 9 early points and Patrick MacIver hit a pair of early 3's and the home crowd smelled a blow out. But 6'2" Tyler Richards (24 points including 4-9 3's) kept X in the game and the X-Men went into halftime down only 10. After Acadia quickly extended the lead to 13 on the first possession of the second half on a conventional three point play by Kraus, 6'8" Islam Luiz de Toledo (13 points, 6 rebounds) sparked a 9-0 X run with a steal and slam dunk and then later X finished the quarter on a 7-2 run to trail by one entering the exciting fourth quarter characterized by multiple lead changes until Kraus knocked in maybe the most important shot of his two-year Axemen career to provide Acadia with the lead for good. 6'5" Sean Berry had another solid game for Acadia with 17 points. St. FX had 3 players, including starters 5'10" Christian "T-Bear" Upshaw (14 points) and 6'3" Dwayne Johnson (12 points) foul out of the game. Box Score
