Western (12-9) 99, McMaster (9-11) 81 6'2" Jason Milliquet culminated a 13-5 run to end the half with a 3 on another in a series of defensive breakdowns by the Marauders as the Mustangs took a double digit lead into halftime and then scored the first 8 points of the second half including another pair of threes to take a 21 point lead to route the Marauders. Western's 6'6" Brad Smith had his way inside against 6'9" Terry Licorish scoring 19 first-half points, many on takes right at the Mac interior "d". After Licorish hit an 18 footer with 3:55 left in the half, Smith and 6'1" point guard Matt Curtis went to work to as Curtis took advantage of poor Mac rotations off ball screens to get to the rim and also found Milliquet and Smith for open takes. The Mustangs hit 10 of their first 12 three pointers to put the game out of reach almost immediately after halftime. Western solidified their hold on third place in the conference while Mac still has not clinched and is now 2 games in the loss column behind Guelph for fourth and a home playoff game.
Brock defeated Laurier 91-80 in Waterloo to put a damper in the Golden Hawks playoff chances; a Lakehead win tonight at home against Guelph combined with a Hawk loss in their final game Wednesday against Windsor will give the T-Wolves the final playoff spot. Meanwhile, Windsor clinched first with a 70-67 win at Waterloo.
