OUA East: Ravens, Gee-Gees Claim Wins

#1 Carleton (24-0, 18-0) 94, #5 Toronto (22-7, 13-4) 73 6'7" Aaron Doornekamp went off for 30 points on 13-24 shooting and added 11 rebounds while 6'4" Ryan Bell hit 3 big 3's in key spots to allow the Ravens to break open a tight game midway through the third quarter and defeat the Varsity Blues. Doornekamp had 8 points in the third quarter including the go ahead bucket that gave Carleton a 47-45 lead that they would not relinquish. Earlier Bell and 6'3" freshman Elliott Thompson had back-to-back 3's that erased a six-point Blues lead. Blues 6'3" guard Nick Magalas was tremendous with a career-high 30 points including 6-10 3's and several nice takes to the rim and pull up jumpers. Toronto battled foul trouble all night as 4 starters fouled out with 6'4" Paul Sergautis and 6'7" Nick Snow sitting down in the first 2 minutes of the third and later joined 6'6" Ahmed Nazmi and 6'4" Mike Degiorgio on the bench fouling out. The Blues shot over 50% to lead by 2 at halftime and then by as much as 6 early in the third quarter but then Doornekamp took over, putting on a shooting display from the perimeter and scoring and finding teammates from the low blocks. The Blues were forced to drop into a zone late in the third quarter. 6'3" Stu Turnbull added 24 points on 12-14 f.t. plus 4 rebounds and 6 assists as the Ravens edged closer to clinching top spot in the OUA East.

#6 Ottawa (21-6) 89, Ryerson (6-20, 5-12) 81 6'9" Dax Dessureault had 21 points on 10-19 shooting including 4 dunks and added 15 rebounds plus a season-high 6 blocks while 6'4" Josh Gibson-Bascombe had 21 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists including several of the looks leading to Dessureault's dunks as the Gee-Gees, despite struggling in several stretches, defeated the Rams in Ottawa before a sparse, weather-affected crowd. After taking a nine-point halftime lead, Ottawa scored 20 points in the first 5 minutes of the third quarter highlighted by back-to-back slams by Dessureault and 6'5" David Labentowicz (12 points, 8 rebounds) to lead by 19. The first half was rather sluggish with turnovers but the Gee-Gees have held a comfortable lead as the Rams spent the majority of the first half in a zone defense and Gibson-Bascombe and 6'0" freshman Vlad Pislaru took advantage by knocking some shots down. 6'8" Boris Bakovic led Ryerson with 27 points on 9-24 shooting and added 14 boards while 5'10" Sanel Sehic (13 points all in the fourth quarter) got red-hot down the stretch, knocking down 3 fourth-quarter threes to help whittle a 20+ point deficit down to 9. The Rams got a nice first half from 6'10" Joey Imbrogno, who finished with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocked shots inside.

York (7-21, 5-13) 85, RMC (0-25, 0-18) 52 6'7" Matt Terejko had 17 points and 10 rebounds while 6'1" sophomore guard Jason Hoult added 17 points on 4-6 from downtown to lead the Lions to an easy win.
