An overlooked cutter on an inbounds pass and a desperation trey that went awry with just 4.1 seconds on the clock were all that prevented the Carleton Ravens from suffering their first defeat against Canadian competition last weekend. The great escape against their archrival uOttawa Gee-Gees, though, had little bearing on voters as the big black birds once again swept all first-place ballots to remain perched atop the cishoops.ca Media Poll. The Ravens closed out their Ontario University Athletics East division regular season campaign with a (22-0) record and are now (28-0) against Canadian competition. They’ll host the OUA East semis next Saturday against the lowest remaining seed emerging from Wednesday’s quarterfinals. The Brandon Bobcats, idle last week after capturing the Canada West Plains division regular season crown with a (20-2) record, garnered all but four second-place ballots. The Bobcats, (25-6) overall, will host the Regina Cougars in the Plains division finals this weekend. Canada West Central division champ Calgary will come off their bye week to host the University of Alberta Golden Bears in their best-of-three divisional final. The Dinos finished (18-4) in league play and remain in third place in the poll with a (22-6) record. Acadia, which captured the Atlantic University Sport Nelson division regular season title by ripping off three wins last week, held on to fourth place in the poll. The Axemen are now (17-2) in league play and (23-5) overall. Toronto leapt to fifth after collecting a pair of wins over travel partner Ryerson to close out their OUA East campaign in second place with a (17-5) record, which earned the Varsity Blues a bye into the OUA East semis. Now (26-8), they’ll host the highest remaining seed emerging from the OUA East quarterfinals. Cape Breton slid to sixth in the poll after dropping a 69-68 decision to St. Francis Xavier. The Capers are now (14-4) in AUA Baldwin division play and (20-7) overall. U.B.C. climbed to seventh after notching a pair of wins over the Fraser Valley Cascades in the Canada West Pacific division postseason semis. The Thunderbirds, who finished (18-5) in league play and are now (22-5) overall, will face Victoria in the Pacific finals this weekend. The Laval Rouge et Or continued their torrid pace by extending their winning streak against Quebec Student Sport Federation competition to 12 games. Now (13-2) in league play and (19-8) overall, the Rouge et Or have ended Concordia’s three-year reign atop the QSSF regular season standings and climbed to eighth in the poll. Windsor slid three spots to ninth after dropping a 20-point decision to McMaster. The Lancers, though, defeated Waterloo to wrap up the Ontario University Athletics West division regular season title. They’re (16-5) in league play and (20-6) overall. Alberta dropped a spot to tenth after defeating the Saskatchewan Huskies two games to one in the Canada West Central division semis. The Bears, (16-6) in league play and (23-8) overall, will next face Calgary.

I like the carleton no cdn competition loss however its interesting that Carleton did not compete in many Canadian tournaments this yr after losing to STFX last Yr at UNB.
Do you really think Carleton was ducking competition? Give me a break.
They had their own tournament and they played three top-10 teams in Victoria but they filled up on US competition, too. St FX and the like aren't going to prepare them for the playoffs as well as the likes of Illinois, Alabama, Louisville, Provindence, and Boston College.
I'm shocked to see that Ottawa's buzzer beater loss to Carleton actually dropped them in the standings. It seems that simple wins and losses impress many voters more than actual performance and the level of competition. Any poll with a Quebec team in the top-10 this year is a poll that is accustomed to sharing the laurels without actual merit.
