The Blues got a very good defensive effort inside from 6'6" Andrew Wasik and mixed in strong doses of their 2/3 zone to stymie the Thunderwolves as 6 Toronto players scored in double figures at home. After a strong start that gave the T-Wolves a 25-20 lead after one, the Blues switched to their zone and held Lakehead to only 9 second-quarter points. Wasik's ability to hold 6'6" Yoosrie Salhia is reasonable check one-on-one inside negated the need for double downs and, outside of 6'2" Jamie Searle who went 5-8 from downtown, Lakehead's three point game did not flourish.
The Blues took a four point lead into halftime but Lakehead took the momentum away early in the third quarter, grabbing a three-point lead at one point. But the Blues continued to get themselves to the rim consistently and ended the third quarter on a 5-0 run highlighted by a buzzer-beating three by 6'3" Sean Nichol (13 points) to lead by 7 and Lakehead got no closer the rest of the way.
Varsity got the type of strong, consistent production required to win from 6'1" Anthony DeGiorgio, who managed the game very well and finished with 17 points (2-3 3's) to lead Toronto, adding 6 rebounds and 8 assists against only 4 turnovers in 36 minutes. 6'5" Alex Hill added 13 for Toronto which also got 15 from guard Justin Holmes and a 10-point, 7 rebound effort from Drazen Glisic. Searle led Lakehead with 17 points while Brendan King added 15.
