Dalhousie captures Hawk Classic

The Tigers capped a 3-0 weekend in Ontario by defeating home town Laurier Golden Hawks 69-61 this afternoon to capture the Hawk Classic. 6'1" Simon Farine (20 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists) hit a pair of big shots in the fourth quarter and the Tigers got after it defensively when it counted down the stretch to pull away with about 4 minutes remaining. Tournament all-star 6'9" Joe Schow had a 18 point effort while 6'7" Sandy Viet continued his strong play with 12 points/7 rebounds. Dal coach John Campbell was happy with the win but was "disappointed with the amount of turnovers given the experience level in our backcourt and inconsistency rebounding the ball". 6'5" Kale Harrison had 13 points/7 rebounds, 6'2" Jesse MacDonald had 15 points and 6'5" freshman Max Allin added 10 points and 7 rebounds in 30 minutes for Laurier.

In the earlier game, 5'10" Nick Lowther's steal and subsequent transition layup with 26 seconds left broke a tie and the Wesmen held on the final possession of the game, escaping with an 84-81 victory over Brock Badgers. Winnipeg led for the entire game with leads as large as 15 but the young Badgers mounted a comeback to tie the score before Lowther's heroics. Brock played without starting point guard Joel Whitty who was injured in last night's loss to Dalhousie.
