Saskatchewan 102, Thompson Rivers 82

Huskies win Graham Construction opener 5'10" Showron Glover scored 31 points and added 7 steals while backcourt mate 5'11" Mike Linklater added 26 on 10-14 shooting with 4 rebounds and 4 assists as the Huskies grabbed a first round win at their own tournament. 6'8" fifth-year post Troy Gottselig got the Huskies off to a nice start, scoring all of his 18 points in the first half and added 10 rebounds, going 6-7 from the field. With the home side up 47-45 at halftime, Saskatchewan's guards led a 27-13 run in the third quarter to break open a tight game. The Wolf Pack stayed in the game on some torrid shooting from downtown going 12-24 from 3 point land and 53% overall in the game but TRU turned the ball over 26 times against the Huskies gambling guards led by the athletic Glover. 6'1" Drew Bleth led TRU with 13 pts, 3 asts. 6'4" Charles Barton 13 pts, 5-6 FGs. while 7'2" Greg Stewart 13 pts, 5-6 FGs. and 6'4" Sean Garvey 12 pts, 4 asts. 6'9" fifth year post Chris Unsworth had 10 pts, 4 rebs, 5 asts, 2 blk & 3 stls. for Saskatchewan while 6'4" Duncan Jones had 9 pts, 5 rebs. In another non-conference game, McMaster Marauders jumped out to a 25-11 lead, led 58-32 by halftime and created 25 turnovers in a 102-80 route of Franklin College, an NCAA Division III team from Indiana on tour in Southern Ontario. 6'5" Cam Michaud led the way with 17 points for Mac while 6'2" Tyrell Vernon and 6'6" Matt Wilusz added 15 apiece. 5'11" guard Jermaine DeCosta had 8 points, 7 assists and 5 steals for the Marauders who played a tidy game turning it over only 12 times. Mac played without star 6'6" forward Keenan Jeppesen as they prepare to host AUS foes St. FX X-Men tonight and Saint Mary's Huskies on Sunday night with both games at the Burridge Gym in Hamilton.
