Updates/Corrections to Weekend Preview

A few changes to our weekend preview, mainly time changes. Also please note for those wishing to watch games on SSN Canada, I know that Cape Breton's game in Ottawa on Friday at 8 PM ET will be available as will numerous other games during the course of the year.

Times for both Guelph games this coming weekend are 1 PM ET (not noon as previously posted) (Saturday afternoon vs. Saint Mary's and Sunday afternoon against St. Francis Xavier). Gryphons promising 6'10" freshman Colton Hood continues to fight the effects of a bout with pneumonia which started to show itself near the Thanksgiving weekend. Hood has already dropped 20 lbs. (from his playing weight of 265 lbs.) and has not practiced consistently for a few weeks. A potential interesting matchup in Sunday's game between the Gryphs and X could be X's 7'3" Rinny Ngot battling with Hood, assuming he is healthy enough to play. A bout of the flu has stricken many members of the Gryphs including freshmen 6'7" Matt Howlett and 6'8" John Brutto plus 6'6" veteran Jay Mott, making their status for the weekend probable... Thanks to Coach Jacques Paiement Jr. for letting us know the times for the tournament in Laval where a women's tournament is also going on this weekend (all times Eastern):
Friday - Calgary vs Western @ 4PM - Dalhousie vs Laval @ 8PM
Saturday - Calgary vs Dalhousie @ 4PM - Western vs Laval @ 8PM
Sunday - Western vs Dalhousie @ 11AM - Calgary vs Laval @ 3PM

Finally, here is a report previewing Ryerson's weekend...MBB: Rams host European pro team

The Ryerson Rams men's basketball team will continue its preseason schedule on Saturday when it plays host to European team Prokom (1pm, Kerr Hall Gym). From Poland, Prokom's senior men's team plays in the Euroleague, the second highest level of competition in men's basketball after the NBA.

Prokom will be sending their development team as part of a Canadian tour that Rams head coach Roy Rana helped to plan and set up. Ryerson will be one of several universities that Prokom will visit during their time in Canada.

The game will mark a change in the preseason schedule for Ryerson, who until now have only played teams in Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS), as well as a tough challenge for Rana's team.

"This is a great preseason game for a couple of reasons," said Rana. "It is a solid preseason game for the development of our team and part of this is giving our athletes the opportunity to play against a different style of basketball."

Rana said that his players are all very excited to play a team like Prokom, adding that he thinks some of his players could play overseas after graduation.

The Rams will be looking to pick up their first preseason victory on Saturday after dropping games to McMaster, Alberta, and Western so far this year.

Sophomore guard Josh Budd (Timmins, Ont.) will look to continue his strong preseason on Saturday. Budd led the Rams in scoring against Alberta with a game-high 25 points. All-star Boris Bakovic (Toronto) has also had a solid preseason, scoring in double digits against both McMaster and Alberta.

Ryerson has three preseason games remaining after their tilt with Prokom. The team will visit the Guelph Phoenix, Brock, and Daemen College before opening the regular season November 6th when they take on Waterloo at Kerr Hall.
