Guleph 82, Saint Mary's 60
The Gryphs used a 28-11 flurry in the third quarter, led by their once-traditional tough half-court "d" to stifle the Huskies and win comfortably at home. 6'4" Jay Mott shook off the ill effects of the flu with a 4 for 6 effort from downtown and had a game high 20 points while 5'11" point guard Mike Patrella added 17 and 7 assists for Guelph. The Gryphons jumped out to a 15-5 lead off the start of the game but allowed Saint Mary's to crawl back in to a 33-33 tie by halftime. Patrella and Mott led the charges in the third quarter run and the Gryphs went on to hand Saint Mary's their second consecutive double digit loss in Ontario this weekend. 6'7" Adam Bering did a stellar job limiting the touches, scores and putbacks for the usually effective 6'5" Ike Uchegbu while 6'3" Mark McLaughlin had 15 points but was held in check for the most part, struggling with his jumper. 6'1" Joey Haywood led the way for Saint Mary's with 18 points including several slick pull up jumpers in the second half when the Huskies were down big. The Gryphs now look to host X Sunday afternoon at 1 PM while Saint Mary's moves down Highway 8 to face McMaster tomorrow in a rare late Sunday afternoon start at 5 PM at the Burridge Gym.
