Fourth quarter surge pushes SFU past Waterloo 64-53
A fourth quarter flurry by the Simon Fraser University Clan men’s basketball team propelled the Clan past the University of Waterloo Warriors 64-53 on Friday night, as Clan senior Sean Burke (North Vancouver, B.C.) tied the all-time Clan career assist record with his 503rd career assist. Burke ties Novell Thomas for the all-time Simon Fraser career record.
After Waterloo led by one-point at the half (30-29), and by three after three quarters (47-44), the Clan out scored the Warriors 20-to-6, with Burke and teammate Kevin Shaw (North Vancouver, B.C.) combining for 13 of SFU’s final 20 points. Burke and Shaw, high school teammates at Argyle, combined to tie the Thomas’ record when Burke assisted on a Shaw three-pointer midway through the fourth quarter.
