AUS: Cape Breton avenges loss; X wins

#5 Cape Breton (17-6, 11-3) 66, #2 Acadia (17-5, 11-2) 53 The Capers pulled away at home, holding the Axemen to just 8 fourth-quarter points and kept 6'5" Leonel Saintil off the offensive glass to record the 13 point win at home. 6'5" Philip Nkrumah went 3 for 8 from downtown to finish with 17 points and added 11 rebounds while 6'5" Eric Breland had 15 points/8 rebounds and 6'4" Paul Blake added 14. Acadia hurt themselves by going only 7 for 17 at the line including a 4-11 effort from Saintil and had 17 turnovers. 6'1" Paolo Santana had only 2 points while 6'5" Sean Berry finished with only 5 for Acadia. The Axemen travel to Antigonish to face St. FX tomorrow.

St. Francis Xavier (17-7, 8-3) 76, Saint Mary's (19-8, 8-5) X solidified their hold on third spot with a view to the top but nearly blew a 17 point halftime lead. 6'2" Tyler Richards had a season-high 27 points and added 6 assists to lead the X-Men to the important home win. 6'5" Ike Uchegbu had his season-high of 21 points, 7 rebounds while battling 6'8" Islam Luiz de Toledo, holding the talented freshman to 12 points/8 boards, well off his second half averages. Saint Mary's played only 6 players all night and got a 16 point/11 rebound double/double from 6'1" Shane Morrison.

In other AUS games, Dalhousie swept UPEI with an 80-68 win in Charlottetown, pulling away in the fourth quarter behind 6'1" Simon Farine's 18 points while UNB picked up their first win of the season, defeating Memorial 90-75.

AUS schedule this year is not the greatest. Nice that CBU only prepared for one game this weekend against ACADIA while the Axemen and others struggle with two games to prepare for. CBU last weekend had a 36+ hour lay off between games while Acadia and others played two games in a row. CBU is a good team. Acadia is better. It will show in the AUS Final 6
