Lakehead 88, Regina 64

Using another strong fourth quarter, the Wolves broke open the game with a 28 point fourth-quarter, getting it done on the glass at both ends to sweep the two-game weekend set against Regina Cougars.  Lakehead newcomer Venzal Russell led all scorers with 20 points and added 4 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists in 22 minutes.  Greg Carter added 13 and 4 steals and Cam Hornby finished a solid weekend with 12 points, his second straight game in double figures.  The game was played in front of an Alumni weekend capacity crowd, including a packed student's section.


Cougars freshman Brendan Herbert's 3's helped Regina to lead by one at 21-20 after one however Carter knocked down a pair of 3's and the Wolves held Regina to only 8 second quarter points to take a 7 point lead at the half.  Lakehead began asserting themselves on the glass in the second half and extended their lead

Regina's Paul Gareau capped a strong weekend with 15 and 5 rebounds while Darius Mole had 9 on 4-8 shooting.  Lakehead shot 11-31 from 3pt land and out rebounded Regina 49-35 (19-17 Offensive). Lakehead shot better from the line tonight (13-17) but committed 24 turnovers.

Lakehead travels to UNB next weekend for the Eric Garland Classic during which the Wolves will meet St. FX X-Men and Cape Breton Capers.  Regina will host Briarcrest College next weekend before awaiting the arrival of the Toronto Varsity Blues for a pair of games the following weekend.
