UNB 90, Laval 86

In a big upset, UNB Varsity Reds held off the charging Rouge et Or in Quebec City as Laval turned the ball over on an inbounds pass with 3.2 seconds left and a chance to tie.  UNB led by 7 at halftime after a high-scoring first half and had leads as large as 17 but gave up the lead late before regaining and holding off Rouge et Or on the final possession.  UNB got a tremendous first half effort from 6'1" sophomore guard Dan Quirion had 15 first half points.  6'3" J.F. Beaulieu-Mahieux was a one-man band for Laval with 17 in the first half and 30 for the game.

Laval Head Coach Jacques Paiement was disappointed with his team's performance, especially defensively.  "We simply could not contain their guards".

Laval meets Saint Mary's tomorrow evening while the V-Reds get Carleton with the victor of this game in the driver's seat for the tournament title.
