In a game in which both teams combined for 75 attempts from the three point line, 6'3" J.F. Beaulieu-Mahieux scored 31 points including 7-10 from downtown to lead Laval, which shot the ball better than during Friday night's loss to UNB but more importantly had a much stronger defensive effort. 6'1" Jack Gallinaugh matched Beaulieu's stroke, knocking down 7 of 11 3's himself to lead Saint Mary's with 21 points.
Laval exploded for 57 second-half points and was supported by 6'4" Jerome Turcotte, who continues to play impressively in the pre-season; he had 17 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. 6'2" Christian Trottier, who has battled early season injuries, had 13 off the bench for Laval including 3-5 3's. Huskies all-conference guard Joey Haywood added 14 points for Saint Mary's but was only 3-16 overall from the field including 1-7 from downtown.
The tournament concludes tomorrow as Saint Mary's meets AUS rival UNB in the early game and the host Rouge et Or tangles with undefeated Carleton Ravens at 4 PM.
