As reported on Dinos Hoops News 6'0" Keenan Milburn was 5 of 6 from 3 point range, and the leading scorer with 19, as the Calgary Dinos notched their 2nd win in the Huskies Shootout in Saskatoon. In beating the Brandon Bobcats 73-61, the Dinos were out of the gate quickly, building a 21-11 lead after 1 quarter. Brandon bounced back with 26 points in the 2nd frame, and trailed by just 41-35 at half-time, but Calgary tightened up the defense, allowing Brandon just 12 in the 3rd and 14 in the 4th quarters. Milburn, a 4th year pick-up from SAIT, and who played his high school basketball in Courtenay, B.C. , has added defensive toughness, slick passing, and maturity to the Dinos. As for his shooting, Coach Dan Vanhooren says, “Keenan is one of the best long range shooters we’ve had ... he will surprise a lot of teams who may not have seen him play.” Milburn registered 5 assists against Brandon, in a part of the game so vital to Calgary, who are playing without Jarred Ogungbemi-Jackson for several weeks to start the Canada West season. The Dinos also got 12 points and 5 rebounds from 4th year post man, Dustin Reding, with Tyler Fidler (4th) adding 9 points and 3 boards. Brandon, who are 0-2 in the tournament, were led by 13 points from Kyrie Coleman. The Dinos play Saskatchewan at 7 pm Calgary time on Saturday in the tournament finale. The Huskies trimmed an under-powered Queen’s Golden Gaels squad 84-34, with Trevor Nerdahl scoring 17 points, with contributions from the whole team in an easy win.
