Calgary, hosts win big at Graham Construction Shootout

Calgary 84 Queen's 58  The Calgary Dinos got a balanced scoring effort, led by 14 points from rookie post man, Matt Letkeman, who was a perfect 6/6 from the field in his 1st CIS game. Queen’s, depleted by injuries, dressed only 8 players for the game, but stuck close to Calgary for much of the 1st half, which ended 33-24 for the Dinos.  Tyler Fidler scored 13 points , but had a slow start until getting a sugar injection from manager Dean ‘The Candy-Man’ McCord. Andy Rochon, 3rd year point, added 12 points for the Dinos, with Keenan Milburn, 4th year transfer (SAIT) guard, and Phil Labongo, rookie wing man, from Winnipeg, scoring 11 and 8 points respectively, in strong 2nd half performances from both newcomers to the Calgary line-up. Posts Youri Anissovets, with 7 pts., and Gregg Farineau with 6 pts. scored well in only 7 and 6 minutes of playing time respectively.

Calgary out-shot Queen’s 49% to 38% from the floor, although both teams were cold from 3 pt. range ... Calgary 6/21 - 29% and Queen’s 7/23 - 30%. The Dinos had the edge at the foul line ... 24/29 for 83 % to just 11/14 for the Gaels for 79 %. The teams both recorded 29 rebounds. Letkeman completed the double-double, leading Calgary with 10 boards, while Fidler grabbed 7.

In the 2nd game played Thursday, the hometown Saskatchewan Huskies bagged the Brandon Bobcats 93 - 60 ... Saskatchewan will play Queen’s Friday in the late game.

The Dinos face the Brandon Bobcats in their Friday game ... 6 pm ... at the U of S. In Thursday’s 2nd game Saskatchewan . After their Friday game, the Dinos plan to go across the road and watch the Football Dinos play their big game with the Huskies.
