Ravens and Huskies will play for 20th House-Laughton Hoops Classic Title on Sunday

Saskatchewan defeats Bishop’s 74-53 and Host Ravens defeat UPEI, 92-52.

The Carleton University Ravens and University of Saskatchewan Huskies will battle for the 20th House-Laughton Hoops Classic title on Sunday as both teams enter play 2-0. The UPEI Panthers and Bishop’s Gaiters (both 0-2) will play for third place in the first game on Sunday.

Game One

Saskatchewan Huskies defeat Bishop’s Gaiters, by 21-points, 74-53, on Day Two of House-Laughton Hoops Classic.

The University of Saskatchewan Huskies (CWUAA) defeated the Bishop’s University Gaiters (QSSF), by 21-points, 74-53, to improve their House-Laughton Hoops Classic record to 2-0 and look to face the 8-time tournament Champion Carleton Ravens on Sunday. The Huskies led from wire to wire holding Bishop’s to 31-first half points and closing down the Gaiters in the fourth quarter holding them to a tournament low 6-point performance to win by 21-points. The Huskies led by 7-points after three quarters but their defensive display in the fourth quarter put the game away early in the final stanza setting up the Carleton-Saskatchewan final.

The Huskies were led by Michael Linklater, Trenton, New Jersey with a game high 23-point performance as teammate Trevor Nerdahl, Elmira, Ontario chipped in with 19-points. Tory Gottselig, Findlater, Saskatchewan was the only other Huskie in double figures with

13-points. Chris Unsworth, Maple Creek, Saskatchewan led the Huskies with 12-total rebounds as Saskatchewan out rebounded Bishop’s 44 to 35 for the game.

Top scorer for the Gaiters was Oraine Green, Toronto, Ontario with 12-points. Damon Thomas-Anderson, Verdun, Quebec and Onnex Blackwood, Toronto, Ontario each added 9-points in the loss to the Huskies. Thomas-Anderson led Bishop’s with 10-rebounds.

Game Two
Carleton Ravens defeat UPEI Panthers, 92-52, to advance to House-Laughton Hoops Classic Championship Game.
Ravens look to win 9th straight House-Laughton Hoops Classic Title.

The Carleton University Ravens (OUA) defeated the UPEI Panthers (AUS), 92-52, to win their 26th straight game in the House-Laughton Hoops Classic. The Ravens will be looking to win their 9th straight House-Laughton title on Sunday when take on the University of Saskatchewan Huskies at 2:00PM, in the Ravens’ Nest.

For a second straight night, Carleton played a complete game holding their opponents to 50-points and winning by 40 or more. They led the entire game holding UPEI to 32-first half points and 8 points in the third quarter. The Ravens defense was too strong for the Panthers as they force UPEI to commit 19 turnovers in the game.

The Ravens were led by veteran Forward Kevin McCleery, Ottawa, Ontario with 19-points. Other Ravens in double figures were Tyson Hinz, Ottawa, Ontario with 15-points, the rookie now has 41-points for a 20.5 average in the tournament. Anthony Ashe, Ottawa, Ontario chipped in with 14-points and Willy Manigat, Montreal, Quebec added 13-points in the victory over UPEI. Cole Hobin, Ashton, Ontario led the Ravens with 9-total rebounds as Carleton out rebounded UPEI, 45 to 18 for the game.

The Panthers top scorer were Manock Lual, Ottawa, Ontario and Matt Fennell, London, Ontario with 12-points each. Lual pulled down 6 boards to lead UPEI in rebounds.
