UBC 79, Guelph 76

6'2" Dan McCarthy's attempt at a game-tying three at the buzzer came off as the visiting UBC Thunderbirds held off the Gryphs.  The T-Birds built an 18 point halftime lead, dominating the glass (12 offensive rebounds), scoring in transition and holding Guelph to 5-18 shooting from downtown.  But the Gryphs mounted a third quarter comeback, outscoring UBC 25-10 in the frame, to bring the game back to within 3.  Guelph finally tied the game at 71 on a pair of Mike Patrella free throws but the Birds regained the lead and were up two with 5.5 seconds remaining.  UBC then made 1-2 free throws, setting up McCarthy's attempt at heroics which just came off.

6'4" Jonathan Moscatelli was the catalyst in Guelph's comeback, knocking in 18 of his game-high 26 points after halftime including four of his 6 threes - the only Gryph in double figures.  The Gryphs went 7-10 overall from downtown in second half.  Guelph played without the services of 5'11" Kareem Malcolm, who has a hamstring injury and also were without 6'5" Gerald Greenidge was came up ill.  McCarthy was limited to 20 minutes because of foul trouble.

UBC was led by defending Moser Award winner 6'2" Josh Whyte 14 points and 11 rebounds and Nathan Yu's 17.  6'5" Kamar Burke added 15 for the Birds, who got theirs inside and in transition.  UBC shot just 2-13 from downtown as they played their third game of the weekend after defeating Guelph Phoenix men's team by 4 points on Saturday at Forsythe H.S. in Kitchener.   6'6" fifth-year forward Brent Malish added 7 points and 8 rebounds for UBC.  The Birds were undefeated on their Southern Ontario trip including a win at Wilfred Laurier on Friday night.
