Manitoba 85, Brock 74

The visiting Bisons rode a 17-3 run off the start of the fourth quarter to break open a tight game in handing rookie Coach Brad Rootes a loss in his first game against CIS competition.  With the score tied at 51 late in the third, the Badgers went cold and when 6'6" Sean Maxwell (11 points, 8 rebounds) knocked in a 3 with about 4 minutes gone by in the final frame, Manitoba grabbed their largest lead at 16 and the game was all but decided.  Earlier, the Bisons came from as many as 7 down to finish the first half on a 9-3 run to lead by4 before extending to a 10 point lead midway through the third.  But the Badgers had one more run left in them, tying the game at 51 late in the quarter.  Veteran Richard Reimer led all scorers with 19 points, adding 7 rebounds for Manitoba while newcomer point guard Josh Ogden added 14 points in a solid effort.  Fifth-year point guard Andrew Kraus had 13 points and 11 boards for Brock while forward Mark Gibson added 13 points/10 rebounds.  The Badgers played without 6'2" Didi Mukendi and 5'11" point guard Joel Whitty.  Manitoba meets McMaster tomorrow night in Hamilton as their tour of Southern Ontario continues while the Badgers await the arrival of Fraser Valley Cascades on Saturday afternoon at 3 PM in St. Catharines.
