Western 96, Ryerson 61

LATE UPDATE: Note score changed to 96-61 for Western; also Ryerson's Josh Budd finished with 20 points (more than previously reported)....

The Mustangs "shot it very well tonight" as Head Coach Brad Campbell explained, jumping out to a 24-8 lead after the first quarter and eventually cruising to a 30 point win over visiting Ryerson Rams. 6'4" Andrew Wedemire led the way with 18 points and (unofficially) 13 rebounds (detailed stats were not kept) while 6'1" Jason Milliquet knocked down 5 of the 11 3's hit by Western on the night and added 17 points. 6'1" Ryan Barbeau added 13 points and at least 10 assists while 6'6" Garrett Olexiuk had 15 points. The Mustangs did a good job on Ryerson's 6'7" Boris Bakovic who finished with 15 points and was covered much of the time by 6'5" newcomer David Harder, who eventually fouled out but kept Bakovic at bay. 6'1" point guard Josh Budd added 14 points for Ryerson while 6'3" Chris McNeilly had 11. The Mustangs, who will likely deploy a rotation that goes 8 or 9 deep, were able to empty their bench reasonably early as they ran away in the second half. The Rams, who came off a pair of encouraging games last weekend at McMaster and at home against Alberta, appeared to struggle defensively in the game but again showed signs that the group is getting better and working together. The Mustangs entertain Eureka College, an NCAA Division III team from Illinois on Saturday while Ryerson is off until a week from Saturday when they host Prokom which I believe is a club team from Poland.
