The game was played at the Richmond Oval facility, site of the Olympic speed skating competition, located at the Vancouver Airport. The oval is a huge structure that has been converted to a multi-purpose facility that includes a series of gymnasiums... The Thunderbirds played without last season's CIS Moser Award winner Josh Whyte, who was home in Calgary and also were without emerging star Kamar Burke who arrived from his home in Toronto in time for halftime. UBC had one practice to prepare for the game and also was without Head Coach Kevin Hanson today. Lead Assistant Coach Randy Nohr, who just came off leading Team B.C. to a Bronze medal performance at the Canadian U15 championships in Winnipeg, and assistant Vern Knopp led the charges. All 3 UBC newcomers including 6'3" Fraser Valley transfer Doug Plumb, 6'7" Mike Lewandowski (Pitt Meadows, BC/Pitt Meadows) and 6'5" Geoff Pippus (Colorado Springs, Colorado/Cheyenne Mountain) saw action in the game with Plumb scoring 18 points. Lewandowski saw his first real action with contact in about 5 months as he continues his rehab from a knee injury that was cleaned out on July 1st. Pippus saw limited action as well - all 3 should be steady contributors to the T-Birds this season.
