Decisive victory by the young Dinos in Calgary over NCAA D1 competition. As usual, Wayne Thomas and Ben Matchett (Calgary SID) have detailed looks at the game.
Dinos Hammer Jacks
The Northern Arizona Lumberjacks obviously underestimated a young and relatively small Calgary Dinos team prior to their game Friday. But the Dinos got their attention with an inspired defensive effort, and a 3 point shooting barrage, handing the visitors a crushing 89-65 defeat.
Calgary outshot NAU 54% to 35% from the floor, with 21 points from 2nd year point man, Jarred Ogunbemi-Jackson, and 19 from 4th year forward, Tyler Fidler. The Dinos, led by Fidler’s 14 boards, beat the bigger ‘Jacks 39-33 on the glass. Calgary was a red-hot 13/24 from 3 pt. range, with 2nd year guard, Andrew McGuinness hitting 4/6, and finishing with 16 points.
Calgary’s defense seemed to stifle the Northern attack, and their normally reliable shooters could only muster 19 total points in the 2nd and 3rd quarters combined. Their physical style of defense had NAU giving Calgary numerous 2nd chances at the offensive end for most of the game.
