AUS Today: Capers come back for split at Dal

#8 Cape Breton 64, Dalhousie 57  Storming back from a 10 point halftime deficit, 5'11" Tremaine Fraser's conventional three-point play with 4:40 remaining gave the Capers the lead for good and the CBU zone completely stifled Dal's offense, allowing Cape Breton to gain an important split on Sunday afternoon at DalPlex.  Fraser, who was Cape Breton's best player and started the key rally, blew by 6'1" Peter Leighton to break the tie and the Tigers could muster only 4 points in the first 9 1/2 minutes of fourth quarter.  Capers coach Jim Charters, tired of watching Dal dice up his man-to-man "d" with nice sets and execution, employed a zone and Tigers began making questionable decisions, led by 6'3" Juleous Grant who, after having a tremendous first half, took consecutive tough looks early in the fourth.  Dal finished with only 6 points in the fourth after leading 51-48 going into the final frame.

#7 St. FX 104, Acadia 67  X took a big first half lead in Wolfville and then watched as the Axemen began dealing with their pressure to get the game back to within 10 midway through the third quarter.  However, that's when 5'10" Christian "T-Bear" Upshaw took over, getting to the rim and then quickly knocking down an open 3 off a turnover and the X-Men were never threatened thereafter.  Later 6'4" Terry Thomas added 4 consecutive points including an athletic breakaway slam that got the numerous X partisans in the crowd back into the game.  Upshaw and Thomas heroics began a 22-2 run that stretch the lead above 30 and the rest of the fourth quarter became primarily garbage time.  Acadia once again played without 6'6" Justin Boutilier who is still injured.

Joey Haywood's hero performance against UPEI should get mentioned. He completely and totally carried the Huskies to a 4 point win putting up 46 points, 12 rebounds, 8 assists.

It was incredible.
