Post game notes

The tournament championship is the Ravens 7th in the last 9 years and sixth consecutive in Halifax... 5'10" Mike Kenny is the only fifth-year senior on the Ravens and Head Coach Dave Smart allowed the three-time National champion to come off to his own rousing ovation in the final minute... 6'3" Elliott Thompson was named MVP of the championship game, finishing with a game-high 19 points.  Doerksen led Trinity with 16 points but only 6 after halftime, adding 12 rebounds.  Kyle Coston had 15 points, 10 in the second half.  Phil Scrubb had 16 while tournament MVP Tyson Hinz had 10 of his 11 points in the first half.  50 fouls were called including 26 on the Ravens allowing TWU to shoot 32 free throws (22 made) vs. 14-17 for Carleton.  Ravens forced 18 TWU turnovers including 5 by 6'0" Tristan Smith in 27 minutes.

30,000 total for the three days and a bit over 3,000 for the final. I thought Halifax was wildly supportive of this event regardless of who participates? I thought that only lousy host cities like Ottawa needed nearby teams to do well in order to sell a lot of tickets.

My point isn't to make fun of Halifax's attendance. It was reasonable considering the circumstances of the wild car and the performance of the two NS teams.

This is simply a reality check for the Halifax cheerleaders who like to take shots at the CIS and Ottawa for "stealing their championship away" and dismiss their attendance as laughable. Even the third year at Scotiabank saw more tickets sold for each double header than this year in Halifax.

Don't forget Ottawa's double-count method...easy way to boost numbers. In Halifax if 3000 people went to the 1:00/3:00 games on Friday it was counted as 3000, while in Ottawa it would be 6000.

Could we talk about the actual games themselves instead of rehashing this AUS v the rest of the CIS feud?
God, this is getting old.

If Halifax were to use the "Carleton calculator" the numbers would be through the roof..

not sure why everyone seems intent on ripping Halifax.. I've never been to the tournament in Ottawa but I can say without hesitation that the Halifax organizers do a tremendous job

Sorry Halifax supporters but Ottawa's numbers were still better after dividing them by two to reflect the difference between Halifax counting numbers per session and Ottawa per game.

There are many things one might point to in preferring Halifax as host: Downtown location, status within the city's sporting calendar, and size of arena come to mind.

However, claiming that Halifax's numbers were better than Ottawa's is not one of them.

The only thing some of us have been "ripping" here and on the various hoops boards is the attitude of the "nobody but Halifax" crowd. What might seem like an unprovoked attack only came about after three years of constant sniping at Ottawa and the CIS, along with an attitude that only Halifax could host this tournament.

We don't have any problem with Halifax as host; they do a very good job. It's just too bad that some people are unable to see that other cities are capable of doing a good job, too.

And who appointed you content moderator? If you want to comment on other issues surrounding the final then fell free. You can ignore the other issue being argued while you're at it and spare us the nagging.

Gee, anon 3:33, didn't mean to 'nag' but...
this argument on the attendance issue was turning into nothing more than a pissing match between the AUS and Ottawa sides.... it wasn't very enlightening to any outside observer.
It was a pity nobody seemed to care much about what took place in the actual games themselves.
And LOL....I posted that over two weeks ago....guess someone is still itching for a fight.
