OUA West Tonight: Lancer "d" on display, Hawks by 50, Brock in a tight one

Laurier 110, Waterloo 60  The Hawks jumped all over their cross-town rivals, jumping out to a 16 point first quarter lead, extending it to 26 at the half and then completely blowing out the Warriors in the second half in maybe the most one-sided game in the history of the rivalry.  All 12 Hawks played at least 10 minutes, led by 6'6" Max Allin who had 21 (19 at the half) including 5-8 3's, 6'5" Kyle Enright 17 points (also 5-8 3's) and 6'2" freshman Will Coulthard (16 points, 4-6 3's) as the Hawks went 16-36 from downtown as a team and shot 55%.  Mike Wright led the Warriors, 2-18 from 3, with 25 points as Warriors chief offensive threat 6'3" Cam McIntyre picked up two quick fouls and the fifth-year senior went to the bench early, finishing with 4 points in 12 minutes.

Windsor 78, McMaster 64   In a dominant defensive effort that forced numerous Marauder turnovers, the Lancers broke away early in the fourth quarter with a 10-4 run to lead by 9 and the Marauders never got closer than 7 as Windsor improves to 6-3.  6'1" Josh Collins was stellar at both ends for Windsor, jumping the passing lanes and picking the younger Mac guards to lead the way offensively for the Lancers.  Emerging 6'7" third year transfer Jahmal McQueen was tremendous inside and out for Windsor, showing a variety of slick post moves and knocking shots down and the entire Lancer group was in lock-down mode defensively and on the glass.   Mac had authored a 9-3 run starting the second quarter to lead by 7 as 6'3" freshman Aaron Redpath knocked down consecutive 3's and 6'3" junior Victor Raso followed with a 3 of his own.  But Collins took over from there, nailing a jumper, getting to the rim with a slick scoop lay-in and then, when Mac chose to go underneath a ball screen, Collins nailed a 28 foot 3, allowing the Lancers to finish the half on a 17-5 run as the Marauders settled for perimeter jumpers and Windsor's d stiffened.  Windsor got a valiant effort from 6'2" Enrico Diloreto, playing with an obviously hurt right ankle, but gutted through, making a couple of big shots including a nice pull-up in transition and some nice finds.  For Mac's young freshmen class, this evening was a lesson in what life on the road against an arch rival in January can be as the guards turned the ball over significantly, the ball only intermittently got inside during the offense and many quick shots were hoisted.

Brock 77, Guelph 74  More to come...

...with thanks to our OUA West correspondents Joe Raso and Ken Murray.

Remember when Waterloo was a perennial contender for the national title?
Chances are good you don't...unless you are over 50.
It's funny...a coach like Joe Raso gets canned despite 12 national tournament appearances in 18 years
and 4 national title games and yet a guy like Tommy K can hang on forever for 20+ years despite a lifetime sub .500 record..just sayin'.
