Dinos Dump Warriors in Opener with thanks to Wayne Thomas from the Dinos... Paced by Henry Bekkering's 22 points and 8 rebounds, the pressing Calgary Dinos started strong and held off the host Waterloo Warriors for an 83-76 win in their opening game played Friday night at the Waterloo Tournament. Calgary took a 21-11 lead after one quarter, and held a solid 41-28 margin at the half, and controlled the Warriors for most of the second half. Rob Sihota scored a double - double with 12 points and 12 boards, while rookie Tyler Fidler was impressive in his CIS debut with 16 points on 6/11 field goals including 3/3 from 3 point range. Ross Bekkering had 7 points and 8 rebounds before fouling out, and Cody Darrah notched 9 points for Calgary , who shot only 39% from the field, but 35 % from 3 pt. range. Henry B was a team - best 8/9 from the free throw line as the team shot 19/28 for 68%. Calgary out - rebounded Waterloo 55-47. While Jeff Price had a tough start at the point with no scoring ( 0/5) and 4 turnovers against 2 assists, his back - up, 1st year guard Andrew Champagnie, came in to play 17 strong minutes scoring 7 pts, adding 2 assists, and making 2 steals. Waterloo employed the 3 - ball to reduce a 15 pt. Calgary margin with 2 minutes to play, but the Dinos dominated the game , for the most part. The game was a little sloppy at times as Calgary recorded 26 turnovers and Waterloo committed 21. The Dinos tip off against the McMaster Marauders in Saturday action, and complete the Waterloo Naismith Classic with a Sunday tilt against the University of Toronto Blues. Toronto blasted McMaster 80 - 57 in the 1st game Friday night.

Great reporting and blog updating. We who can't be at the tournaments appreciate it! But the promised internet radio broadcast of the Carleton tournament games last night didn't work through the CKCU link at shoutcast.com. Is there any word on whether the link will be fixed for tonight's and tomorrow's games? Thanks.
