Weekend Preview Update: Injuries slow down a pair of projected starters
With most teams already having practiced for 3-4 weeks straight without outside competition, practices can get repetitive and mundane, so likely everyone is itching to get started. Unfortunately for a couple of players projected to be key to their team's success, the injury bug has hit them just on the eve of their season openers. Laurier's 6'2" combination guard Jesse MacDonald, going into his third season from Brantford, ON, came on in the second half of last season as a guard who could create off the dribble and make shots. MacDonald, a projected starter for Laurier, unfortunately will be unavailable to the Hawks for at least two weeks after turning his ankle in practice earlier this week - he will miss tonight's game in Kingston against St. Lawrence College and this weekend's NIKE Invitational at Concordia in Montreal. As well, 6'4" Josh Gibson-Bascombe, expected to log heavy minutes in the Ottawa Gee-Gees backcourt, also turned his ankle in practice and will be unavailable tomorrow night when the Gee-Gees travel to St. Bruno, PQ to face Champlain-St. Lambert CEGEP. Stay tuned throughout the weekend for results of this weekend's action, beginning later tonight hopefully.
